This is a very common experience in the meditative process, and there is no need to get rid of thoughts; this is not the purpose of meditation. Instead, we are learning to recognize when thinking is happening, so we don't get lost in the trance of believing that those thoughts are our actual reality. A couple of techniques to steady your attention is to respond to thoughts with friendliness and acceptance, and remembering that by after being physically still for a while, your mind will gradually calm down.
